The difference of the roots of the quadratic equation x2+bx+c=0 is |b2c|. If c0, then find c in terms of b.

From the quadratic formula, one root is db+b24c2
and the other is dbb24c2,
so the difference is b24c.
So we have b24c=(b2c)2=b24bc+4c2, or 4c2+4c4bc=0.
If c0, that means 4c+44b=0.
