We know that the general form of the equation of a linear function is
f ( x ) = a x + b
Two points on the linear function are given
Given one point ( x , y ) = ( 1 , 4 ) x = 1 ,   y = 4
Put x = 1 and y = f ( x ) = 4 in
we get 4 = a ( 1 ) + b 4 = a + b b = a + 4
Another point is ( x , y ) = ( 2 , 5 ) x = 2 , y = 5
We get 5 = a ( 2 ) + b 5 = 2 a + b 5 = 2 a + a + 4 5 4 = 3 a 3 a = 9 a = 9 3 a = 3 b = 3 + 4 = 1 b = 1
Required equation of the linear function is f ( x ) = 3 x + 1
