Let speed of the plane in x mph in still air, and speed of the wind is y mph.
So, speed along wind in (x+y) mph.
And speed against wid in (x-y) mph
Now 1890 x + y = 7 x + y = 1890 7 = 270 x + y = 270 1890 ( x y ) = 9 x y = 1890 9 = 210 x y = 210
Adding, we have
( x + y ) + ( x y ) = 480 2 x = 480 x = 240 y = 270 240 = 30
So speed of the plane is 240 mph in still air, and speed of the wind is 30 mph
