3.31 Game of dreidel. A dreidel is a four-sided spinning top with the Hebrew letters nun, 1d shin, one on each side. Each side is equally likely to come up in a single spin of the dreidel. Suppose you spin a dreiler three times. Calculate the probability of getting (a) at least one nun? (b) exactly 2 nuns? (c) exactly 1 hei? (d) at most 2 gimels?

Probability of getting nun = 1 4
Probability of getting gimel= 1 4
Probability of getting hei= 1 4
Probability of getting shin = 1 4
Using binomial theorem of probability we get
a) Probability of getting no nun = ( 3 0 ) 1 4 0 ( 1 1 4 ) 3 = 27 64 \ (For no use k=0)
So, probability of no nun= 1 27 64 = 37 64
b) Probability of exactly 2 nuns = ( 3 2 ) ( 1 4 ) 2 ( 1 1 4 ) = 9 64
c) probability of exactly 1 hei ( 3 1 ) ( 1 4 ) 1 ( 1 1 4 ) 2 = 27 64
d) Probability of at all gimets = ( 3 3 ) ( 1 4 ) 3 ( 1 1 4 ) 0 = 1 64
So, probability of at most 2 gimels = 1 1 64 = 63 64
