The speed of sound waves in a given medium is constant under certain set of conditions. Wave speed = f λ
The speed of a sound wave in given medium depends upon its density. As sound waves are mechanical waves, they travel by molecular vibrations in the medium. Generally, greater the density of a medium greater is the speed of sound in that medium.
