Calculation:
According to question
h=16t2+26t
Also, h=5
Therefore,
5=16t2+26t
Converting the equation in standard form:
16t226t5=0
On comparing the equation with at2+bt+c
a=16,b=26,c=5
Finding the value of t,
t=b±b24ac2a
Substituting the values,
t=(26)±(26)24(16)(5)2(16)
Opening brackets,
t=26±67632032
So, t=26±99632
Solving root t=26±31.5532
So, t=26+31.5532 and t=2631.5532
So, t=57.5532 and t=5.5532
Therefore, t=1.79 and t=0.17
Time can never be negative so, time to reach 5 feet height is 1.79sec.
