We can write this function and on following way

f(x)=1(22+12)x

=1(1+12)x

From previous representation of f(z) we can conclude that a = 1

b=1+r=1+12>1, which means this function actually is exponential growth. So, the error which Charles made is that he did not notice that in this function is b=32>1

This is exponential growth
