Jim = 2/3 * a or aka 2a/3 so jim equals two thirds of variable a
600=Jim +a money they make together equation
600= (2/3 * a) +a substitutein to get equation in terms of a
600= 2a/3+3a/3 add your a's
600=5a/3 now that they're added multiply by 3 and divide by 5
1800=5a
360=a
Jim = 2/3 * a so plug in 360 for a
2/3 * 360 = Jim or 240 ....also could have subtracted 360 from600 to get this answer
