let x be the number of hours Juan can complete by himself in one hour
Fred get 1 12 of the job done
Juan get 1 x of the job done
in one hour they got x + 12 12 x = 1 8 of the job done
8 ( 1 12 + 1 x ) = 1 in 8 hours they got the whole job done
12 + x 12 x = 1 8
8(12+x) = 12x
96 + 8x = 12x
96 = 4x
x = 24 hours

Fred can complete a job in 12 hrs.
so,in 1 hr fred can complete 1/12 th of thejob
If he and juan work together, they can complete the same job in 8hrs.
so, in 1 hr they both together can complete 1/8 th of the job.
so, in 1 hr juan can complete(1/8 - 1/12) th of the job = (12 - 8)/(12*8)
=4/96
=1/24 th of the job
so, juan completes 1/24 th ofthe job in = 1 hr
juan completes the total job in = 1/(1/24) = 24hrs
Answer:- juan completes the total job in 24 hrs
