-x+2y=2 ................(a)
3x+y=15 ................(b)
from (a), x = 2y - 2
putting value of x in (b) , we get
3(2y -2) + y = 15
=> 6y -6 + y = 15
=> 6y + y = 21
=> 7y = 21
=> y = 21/7 = 3
putting value of y = 3 in (a), we get:-
-x + 2*3 = 2
=> -x +6 = 2
=> x = 6-2 = 4
Answer:- x = 4; y = 3

Use the most simple equation for your substitution. This is going to be either one in this case. Lets use the second one. Solve for y which will bey=15-3x. Now plug that into where ever you see y in the first oneso it becomes.
-x+2(15-3x)=2 Now simplify
-x+30-6x=2 Now solve for x
Plug in x into any one of the equations to get y
