If a polynomial P(x) is devided by x-r, the remainder is a constant P(r), for ( 4 x 3 7 x + 1 ) ÷ ( x + 1 2 ) we check P ( 1 2 ) :
P ( 1 2 ) = 4 ( 1 2 ) 3 7 ( 1 2 ) + 1 = 4 0
Result:
The remainder is 4 , x + 1 2 is not a factor of the polynomial.
