Assume that Jesse rides his bike at a speed of x miles per hour, then Tim speed will be x-2 miles per hour.
Now both have taken same time, so
40 x 2 = 45 x 40 x = 45 ( x 2 ) 45 x 40 x = 90 5 x = 90 x = 18
So Jesse spead is 18 miles per hour and Tim is 16 miles per hour.
