1) Two samples are said to be independent if the observations in one do not depend on the observations in the other. The dependent samples have the observations from the same or related populations. The observations in such samples are usually paired and are collected for the same population or for a related set of units in two different scenarios.
Hence, the sampling method is said to be independent because here the comparison between the participants of two groups is considered. Group 1 is comprised of peaple consuming alcohol and Group 2 is comprised of people not consuming alcohol. The participants of both groups are not related to each other.
