The Chi-square test is a statistical test that is a nonparametric test. This is used for categorical data. Using this we find the difference between observed frequency and expected frequency. The chi-square test statistic is given by,
, where O is observed frequency and e is expected frequency.
1. Here we use the chi-square test for goodness of fit
:Fruits are uniformly selected
:Fruits are not uniformly selected.
Compute expected frequency
Here total number of fruits=60
Number of verieties=3
Apply chi square test
Test statistic,
Here degrees of freedom=(k-1)=2
At a 5% level of significance, the critical value is 5.99 (from chi-square table)
If the critical value is greater than test statistics we accept the null hypothesis. Otherwise, reject
Here 5.99>4.9
Hence we accept the null hypothesis.
Conclusion: The fruits are uniformly selected.
