1.Categorical data such as Gender {Men, Women} or color {Red, Yellow, Green, Blue} etc, but not numerical data such as height or weight, can be examined using the chi-square test. Using the chi-square test we test whether the fit is good or not between the observed and expected data.
2.Chi-square test is an approximated test for large values on n. For the validity of the chi-square test 'goodness of fit between theory and experiment following conditions must be satisfied:
(i) The sample observations should be independent.
(ii) Constraint on the cell frequencies should be linear.
(iii) N, the total frequency should be reasonably large.
(iv) No, theoretical cell frequency should be less than 5.
If we have a grouped data then we have to aggregate the value of the class at a midpoint and we will take the frequency corresponding to the mid point only. That can make a significant difference in the test results.
