What is a chi square test used for?
Chi-square (or χ2) tests draw inferences and test for relationships between categorical variables, that is a set of data points that fall into discrete categories with no inherent ranking.
The Chi-square test used with one sample is described as a "goodness of fit" test. It can help you decide whether a distribution of frequencies for a variable in a sample is representative of, or "fits", a specified population distribution.
While
Chi-square two sample test is to test that two data samples come from the same distribution. Note that we are not specifying what that common distribution is.
