DEFINITIONS
Discrete data are restricted to defined separated values with a finite or countable number of different possible values, for example integers or counts.
Continuous data are not restricted to defined separate values, but can occupy any value over a continuous range, for example decimal, rational or real numbers.
SOLUTION
X=age of the oldest person that a randomly select adult has met.
Usually, we only take into account the integer values of the age (as we tend to say 89 years old instead of 88.5 years old).
In that case, X can only take on integer values and thus there are a finite number of possible values for X, which implies that X is discrete.
Result:
Discrete.
