Stratified random sampling:
Stratified random sampling is a method of sampling in which, the population is divided into several subgroups called strata, then obtaining a simple random sample of individuals separately from each stratum.
In any form of sampling, a desirable quality is that the sample should represent the population. In stratified random sampling, sampling is done separately from each stratum. Thus, to make sure the sample is representative, each stratum itself must be as homogeneous as possible.
Ideally, in stratified sampling, the members of each stratum should be homogeneous relative to the characteristic under consideration.
