The perimeter of a basketball court, which is shaped like a rectangle, is
l + w + l + w = P
or
2 ( l + w ) = P
plug in x for the width
w = x
The width is 6 times longer than it is wide.
l = 2x + 6
P = 108 meters
2 ( 2 x + 6 + x ) = P
2 ( 3 x + 6 ) = 108
6 x + 12 = 108
6 x = 96
x = 16 the width is 16 meters
l = 2 x + 6
l = 2 ( 16 ) + 6
l = 32 + 6
l = 38 the length is 38 meters
