Derivation of Wien's displacement law
I know this might be a silly question, but is it necessary to know Planck's Law in order to show that λ m a x 1 T ? If you set
u ( λ , T ) = f ( λ T ) λ 5
then
u λ = 1 λ 5 f λ 5 λ 4 f = 0
f λ f = 5 λ
But I am stuck here because if I integrate the L.H.S.
f λ f d λ = log ( f ( λ T ) ) = 5 2 λ 2

You've made a mistake in your derivation.
u λ = T λ 5 f λ 5 λ 6 f = 0
