To explain: Why is magnesium hydroxide not a good choice of solute to elevate the boiling point of water.
Since magnesium hydroxide is an insoluble salt in water.
Hence it will not dissolve in decent amount in water.
And since it will not dissolve in decent amount in water, the molality of the solution will be very less.
And since the elevation in the boiling point of the solution is directly proportional to the molality of the solute as,
=> Elevation in boiling point = i × Kb × m
where i = Van't Hoff factor
Kb = elevation in boiling point constant of solvent i.e. water = 0.51 oC/mm = molality of the solute
Hence the elevation in boiling point of water will be extremely low.
Therefore magnesium hydroxide is not a good choice of solute to elevate the boiling point of water because it is insoluble in water and hence will not have much elevation in the boiling point of water.
