you know that 99% of the solution was water, and 1% was somethingelse.
the water evaporates, but the 1% that was something else does notchange.
after the water evaporates, you have 98% water, so 2% somethingelse.
lets call something else (S) and water (W)
first we have
W = 99%
S = 1%
and after evaporation we have
W= 98%
S= 2%
only the amount of water changed, the amount of S did not, sincethe percentage of S was doubled, the amount of water was divided by2.
99 / 2 = 49.5
so you have 49.5% of the water still in the solution, which means50.5 percent was evaporated.
this of it this way, if you have 200 people in a room and 198people were male and 2 people were female, then 99% of the room wasmale and 1% of the room was female.
how many men would have to leave the room to make it 2% women,while still only having 2 people in the room? since the percent ofwomen doubled, we divide the percent of men by 2.
99/2 = 49.5
49.5% of 198 men is 98 men, which makes 98 men and 2 women, meaningthe women are now 2% of the people in the room.

Think of it in terms of 100g
99g water
1g undesignated substance
we want to find 2/100 which is 1/50
so 50/99% of the water is evaporated
this leaves 1/50 or 2%
