A work done on the steady flow system is 30 kJ/kgm. Calculate the heat in HP if the mass flow rate of fluid is 10 kg per minute given that the internal energy is decreased by 10 kJ/kgm and the fluid flow is increased by 20 kJ/kgm. Also, identify if the heat is added to the system or rejected by the system.

Given:
W = 30  KJ/Kg m = 10  Kg/min u 1 = 10  KJ/Kg u 2 = 20  KJ/Kg
By First law of thermodynamics:
Q = d u + W d U = m ( u 2 u 1 ) = 10 60 ( 20 10 ) d U = 1.67  KW W = m W 10 60 30 W = 5  KW Q = 1.67 5 Q = 3.33  kW
