Sound waves can also be refracted this happens, for example, when there is a change of the temperature in the air and hence change of the wave speed. Temperature usually decreases as altitude raises (and the wave speed correspondingly decreases)- this causes a (spherical) sound wave to bend upward as it travels since parts of the wave closer to the ground travel faster
Result:
Echo is an example of sound reflection. Refraction occur when there is a temperature gradient in the air.
