Sound travels faster in stiffer objects, slower in denser materials. The temperature also affects the speed of soundwaves. An increase in temperature lessens the stiffness of solid materials, which results in a decrease in its speed. On the other hand, the increase in temperature in fluids also reduces its density. This makes the sound wave speed faster.
