I take it that you meant the loss in electric potential. It is the differential in voltage between two terminals of a circuit component, such as a resistor, capacitor, etc. There must be a potential or voltage drop for current to flow through the element that is an electron flow. It may be envisioned as the force applied to drive electrons past a circuit element's resistance or impedence. Due to this resistance, the force is lessened at the other end.
A change in potential energy brought on by a change in height is sometimes referred to as a potential drop.
