An electron and a proton are drawn together. Another way to put it is that opposing charges attract one another whereas the same or "like" charges repel one another. The negatively charged electrons are drawn to the positively charged protons because opposing charges attract one another. The fact that the electron and proton have opposing electric charges and that nature's law states that like attracts like and opposites repel like may also be understood.
