The ability of radioactivity to pierce through materials is known as its penetrating capability. The radioactive particle's mass directly relates to its ability to penetrate. The biggest particles are called alpha particles, whereas beta particles are considerably smaller and gamma rays have no mass. The bigger the particle, the more likely it is to successfully collide with the atoms of a substance. The particle will stop travelling through the material as a result of the impact.
Alpha radiations have the least penetrating power as they are massive in nature.
