Fire is the result of COMBUSTION, a chemical reaction. During the process of combustion, FLAMES are produced and flames consist primarily of carbon dioxide, water vapor, oxygen and nitrogen. Flames produce heat and light. When something is burning, we see glowing, dancing flames, but they are actually just gas reacting and emitting light. When most of the molecules are ionized, it is known as Plasma.
Since matter can be defined as “anything which occupies space and has mass or weight”, we can say that fire is a 'matter' because it occupies space and since it is a mixture of gases, it must have some mass. The light and the heat produced by the flame is energy.
