Marriage Prospects Data released by the Cense Bureau in 1986 indicated the likelihood that never married women would eventually marry. The data indicated that the older the women, the less the likelihood of marriage. Specifically, two statistics indicated that women who were 45 and never married had an 18 percent chance of marriage and women 25 years old had a 78 percent chance of marriage. Assume that linear fit to these two data points provides a sonable approximation for the function p-f(a), where p equals the probability of marriage and aequals the age of a no married woman
(a) Determine the linear function pfla
(b) Interpret the slope and p intercept

Given data
1) Probability of 45-year-old woman to get married =18%=0.18
2) Probability of 25-year-old woman to get married =78%=0.78
Calculation
a) Here we know that,
p=f(a)
where p is the probability of a woman of age a to get married
p(25)=0.78 and p(45)=0.18
Since the function is linear,
assume p=Ma+N
Hence, 25M+N=0.78 (1)
45M+N=0.18 (2)
solving equation (1) and (2) we get,
M=0.03 and N=1.53
The function p=0.03a+1.53
b) here we have to find slope and p intercept
here is the function, p=0.03a+1.53
Thus, the slope is -0.03
and the p intercept is 1.53.
