40% of 4 ounces is nickel indicates amount of nickel = 40/100 * 4 = 160/100 = 1.6 ounces of nickel initially
weight of other particles = 4-1.6 = 2.4 ounces
1 ounce of pure nickel is added
Therefore final weight of nickel = 1.6 + 1 = 2.6 ounces
Percent of nickel in resulting metal = amount of nickel /Total amount * 100 %
Total weight = 4+1 = 5 ounces
Percent = 2.6/5 *100 = 52%
