Starting with x2+y2=16, subtract x2 from both sides to get:
y2=16x2
Then taking square roots of both sides:
y=±16x2=±42x2
Now 42x2 only takes Real values when 42x20, that is when 4x4. For values of x(4,4), there are two values of y. The vertical line test indicates that this relation is not a function.
graph{x^2+y^2=16 [-10, 10, -5, 5]}
