y = 2 x^{2}

in (2), we have

2 x^{2} = - 3 x - 1

2 x^{2} + 3 x + 1 = 0

2 x^{2} + 2 x + x + 1 = 0

2 x (x + 1) + 1 (x + 1) = 0

(2 x + 1) (x + 1) = 0

2 x + 1 = 0 \Rightarrow x = \frac{- 1}{2}

x + 1 = 0 \Rightarrow x = - 1

= x = \frac{- 1}{2}

y = 2 x^{2} = 2 {(\frac{- 1}{2})}^{2} = 2 x \times \frac{- 1}{2}

x = - 1

y = 2 x^{2} = 2 {(- 1)}^{2} = 2
