Given Information
we have been given that a group of 48 scoutsattended a camping trip.
the number of girl scouts in attendance was 12 more than the boys scouts.
we have to find how many boys and girlsattended the camping.
Step 1
Assume that the number of girl scouts be x and
the number of boy scouts be y.
as the total number of scouts is 48.
total number of scouts=numbers of girls scouts+numbers of boys scouts
48=x+y ...(1)
Given that. the number of girl scouts inattendance was 12 more than the boys scouts.
therefore, we can write as follows.
numbers of girls scouts=12+numbers of boys scouts
x=12+y ...(2)
now substitute the value of x that is x=12+y in
Step 2
x+y=48
12+y+y=48
12+2y=
2y=4812
2y=36
y=362
y=18
now substitute the value of v in equation (2) to get the value of x.
x=12+y
x=12+18
x=30
therefore the value of x and y is 30 and 18 respectively.
therefore the number of girl scouts is 30 and the number of boy scouts is 18 who attended the camping.
