to eliminate the fraction, multiply ALL terms by 10
10 × 7 10 x + ( 10 × 14 ) < ( 10 × 49 )
7 x + 140 < 490
subtract 140 from both sides
7 x + 140 - 140 < 490 - 140
7 x < 350
divide both sides by 7
7 x 7 < 350 7
x < 50
As a check
