let the trip be of 'x miles'long.
Angela made the trip by bus in 16 hrs.
so speed of bus = (x/16) miles/hr
Angela made the return trip by car in 20hrs.
so, speed of car = (x/20)miles/hr
given that, the bus traveled 10 miles perhr faster than the car.
so, x/16 = x/20 +10
=> x/16 - x/20 =10 [changing sides]
=> (5x - 4x)/80 =10 [doing L.C.M. on left hand side]
=> x / 80 = 10
=> x =800 [cross multiplication]
Answer:- the trip was 800 miles long

it was 800 miles
16 times x = 20 times y, x and y = themph
divide by 16 by 20 and y by x
16/20 = y/x simiplify
4/5 = y/x x=5 and y=4
multiply x or y by 10 then multiply your answer by 16 or 20 and that is 800 which is the answer
