An equation consists of expression equated to another expression or zero.
2x+3=1x or 4x2+4x+1=0
An inequality has one ore more expressions with an inequality sign
2x+1>0
A simple equation can be solved for example like this:
2x+3=1x
Substract 1x on both sides
(2x+3)(1x)=(1x)(1x)
2x+x+31=0
3x+2=0
Substract 2 on both sides
3x=2
Divide by 3 on both sides
x=23
A simple inequality can be solved like this
2x+4>6
Substract 4 on both sides
2x+44>64
2x>2
Divide by 2 on both sides
2x2>22
x>1
