slope is equal to (y1-y2)/(x1-x2) which is the same as(y2-y1)/(x2-x1)
so slope of (4,k) and (6,8) is
(8-k)/(6-4) = (8-k)/2
and the line joining (-1,4) and (0,8)
(8-4)/(0-(-1)) = 4
a) when parallel they have same slope
so (8-k)/2 = 4
k=0
b) when perpendicular slope is negative reciprocal of eachother
so (8-k)/2 = -1/4
k= 17/2
