If we can write any linear equation passing through this point then we can use the point-slope formula.
The point-slope form of a linear equation is: ( y - y 1 ) = m ( x - x 1 )
Where ( x 1 , y 1 ) is a point on the line and m is the slope.
Because we are writing any line which passed through this equation we can pick any slope to substitute.
I will pick a slope of m=2
Substituting the slope I picked and the values from the point in the problem and substituting gives:
(y−3)=2(x−4)
Or, in slope intercept form:
y=2x−5
I could also pick a slope of 0 which after substituting gives:
(y−3)=0(x−4)
Or
y=3
We can also pick a slope of undefined in which case we have a vertical line going thru the point with the equation:
x=4
You can pick any slope you want and use this same process.
