the equation of a line in slope-intercept form is.
x y = m x + c
where m is the slope and c the y-intercept
calculate m using the gradient formula
x m = y 2 - y 1 x 2 - x 1
let ( x 1 , y 1 ) = ( 0 , 5 ) and ( x 2 , y 2 ) = ( - 2 , - 3 )
m = - 3 - 5 - 2 - 0 = - 8 - 2 = 4
Parallel lines have equal slopes
y = 4 x + c is the partial equation
to find c substitute (3,−1) into the partial equation
- 1 = 12 + c c = - 1 - 12 = - 13
y = 4 x - 13 equation of parallel line
