the terms of an arithmetic sequence are
a , a + d , a + 2 d , a + 3 d , ... ... . . , a + ( n - 1 ) d
where d is the common difference between each term
d = a 2 - a 1 = a 3 - a 2 = ... . = a n - a n - 1
here d=−5−(−2)=−3
to obtain the next term in the sequence, subtract 3 from the previous term
−11−3=−14
−14−3=−17 and −17−3=−20
