As magnetic materials come into touch with one another's magnetic fields, a force of attraction or repulsion is created. In some materials, the magnetic field may or may not be present. A magnetic field in close proximity to a magnet, however, can induce certain materials. Since wood is not magnetic, an external magnet cannot produce a magnetic field within it. As a result, a magnet cannot attract or repel wood.
