In order to do this problem, you have to take the hypotenuse of thelength & width which will act as one side of a right triangleas you trace a line from the corner of the floor to a corner of theceiling. Therefore,
L=6W
W=4m
Hyp=?
H y p = ± L 2 + W 2
H y p = ± ( 6 m ) 2 + ( 4 m ) 2
H y p = ± ( 36 + 16 ) m 2
H y p = ± 52 m 2
Hyp=+7.2111026m
Now the hypotenuse value you just calculated between the length andwidth acts as now the base of a right triangle forming from thecorner of the floor to the corner of a ceiling. Hence, all you neednow is the height of the room which will act as the other length ofa right triangle. Therefore, the actual distance is going to be thehypotenuse of the hypotenuse of the length and width and that ofthe height of the room.
d = ± ( H y p ) 2 + ( H ) 2
d = ± ( 7.2111026 m ) 2 + ( 3 m ) 2
d = ± ( 52 + 9 ) m 2
d = ± 61 m 2
d=+7.8102497m
